Granada takes you back to ancient times and instantly makes you feel like you’re wandering in Morocco. The medieval Islamic architecture is breathtaking, particularly the Alhambra, which sits at the top of the old quarter and right in front of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Aimless wandering is a must after you’ve visited the jewel of southern Spain of course.
The atmosphere, the food and the wine made our first stop of our 2 week trip a pleasant and inviting beginning. Adventure beckoned as we ate, drank and lost ourselves in the many corridors, overlooks and tapas bars.
Spanish sherry is a must especially in Southern Spain. Jerez, pronounced “Herez” is plentiful and a cultural icon. I ordered the Jerez de la casa and it was an unapologetic mix of all the sherries in the house… I’ll let you try it for yourself.
Amazing cheeses, Jamon and gazpacho.
